Omulo Malo
Omulo Malo is a Kenyan-born multidisciplinary artist whose work celebrates imagination, bold color, and creative exploration. After moving to the United States as a teenager, she continued developing her artistic practice across painting, collage, glass, and digital media. Today, she creates vibrant digital artworks on the iPad while maintaining the expressive energy and experimental spirit that define her work.
Full Biography
Omulo Malo was born in Nairobi, Kenya, where her passion for art began at an early age. Encouraged by her older brothers, who were talented artists themselves, she developed a love for drawing and creativity as a child. By the age of ten, she was recreating the styles of her favorite cartoon artists and designing handmade greeting cards, which she sold at her boarding school.
At seventeen, Omulo immigrated to the United States. Although adapting to a new country presented many challenges, it also opened new creative opportunities. During high school, she designed stage backdrops for school plays and dances, experiences that not only strengthened her artistic skills but also helped her connect with her new community and environment.
Known for her love of large-scale works, Omulo enjoys experimenting with different materials, textures, and techniques. She often says, “I like canvas that’s as big as my dreams!” Her artistic practice has expanded over the years to include painting, collage, decoupage, glass, and digital media, reflecting her curiosity and willingness to explore new forms of expression.
Her most recent body of work is a collection of digital pieces created on the iPad using a wide variety of brushes, filters, and effects. While her tools have evolved, her playful and expressive approach to making art remains the same. Spray paint continues to be one of her favorite artistic influences, inspiring the vibrant energy found throughout her work.
